School Uniform & EQUIPMENT

The wearing of the school uniform with pride is something we at Northwood School constantly stress to students because we believe that good discipline and harmonious relationships are best achieved when everyone conforms to the same standards.  In our view for a school uniform to be successful it must be distinctive and smart and NOT be open to interpretation or modification. Students are expected to wear the uniform to, from, in and around school as listed below.

BOYS' UNIFORM

Boy's uniform

  • Plain long or short sleeved white shirt with collar. Shirt should be tucked in at all times with top button done up
  • Plain black trousers. No skinny trousers allowed. Students will have until the following week to replace trousers
  • Navy blazer with school badge (worn at all times). Sleeves should be rolled down at all times
  • School tie (length to naval and pulled up to the neck)
  • Plain thin navy V neck pullover
  • Plain black socks
  • Plain black polishable leather shoes (laces of the same colour if required). No trainer style shoes are allowed. No boots. No patent leather. Students not wearing correct shoes will work in isolation for the day
  • Winter Coat (NO extremes in fashion and expense)
  • ID badge and lanyard - If students forget then they must get a replacement from the School Office and a 40 minute HOY detention will be issued.

   GIRLS' UNIFORM

Girl's uniform

  • Plain long or short sleeved white fitted blouse with collar. Shirt should be tucked in at all times with top button done up
  • Black Trutex or Banner front pleat skirt (must be knee length) or Trutex Bootcut loosed legged girls trousers (Trousers from other manufacturers are also allowed if they are the same style). No lycra or straight leg trousers are allowed. Students will have until the following week to replace trousers
  • Navy blazer with school badge (worn at all times). Sleeves should be rolled down at all times
  • School tie (length to naval and pulled up to the neck)
  • Plain thin navy V neck pullover
  • Plain black socks to below the knee or black tights. No leggings allowed
  • Plain black polishable leather shoes. (Laces of the same colour if required). No trainer style shoes are allowed. No boots. No patent leather. Students not wearing correct shoes will work in isolation for the day
  • Winter Coat (NO extremes in fashion and expense)

Additionally, the following are not permitted:

  • Make–up (including foundation, tinted moisturiser or fake tan)
  • Painted nails
  • False nails (should be removed by the following week)
  • Extreme haircuts/colours/dip dye (should be removed by the following week)
  • Facial or mouth piercings
  • Hoodies (hoods are only permitted as part of waterproof jacket or outside coats. Hoodies will be confiscated until collected by parent)
  • Wristbands
  • IWatches - these will be confiscated until the parent/carer collects them. A 40 minute HOY sanction will also be given

Outside jackets and scarves should be removed when inside the main school building.

Any student with a uniform infringement of a top button undone or a shirt untucked will be given a 40 minute HOY sanction.  

Any student who is wearing incorrect uniform may be placed in isolation for the day including break and lunchtime.

Jewellery and Headwear
On health and safety grounds, we do not allow children to wear jewellery to school (except 1 small pair of plain gold or silver studs and a watch.  Wristbands are not permitted).  

We do not allow headwear to be worn during class time or inside school buildings, except for religious or medical reasons.  Any headwear worn for religious/medical reasons should be plain navy blue.  Any hair bands or hair clips should be plain navy blue.

You can purchase our uniform items from other school shops but you must follow the instructions as shown above. Students who attend school in any non-uniform items will either be sent home, or isolated, until such time as they are properly dressed.

EQUIPMENT

Please note that a green pen and reading book are now compulsory parts of equipment

Equipment 

  • Suitable bag

  • Water bottle
  • Black or blue pen (at least 2)
  • Green pen
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Scientific calculator
  • Protractor
  • Compass (maths)
  • PE kit (on days students have PE)

If a student does not have the correct equipment they will be given the opportunity to purchase this from the LRC during form time. Consistently forgetting equipment is a barrier to learning and will be sanctioned with a 40 minute HOY sanction.

For PE all students need:

  • Northwood School navy/amber polo shirt
  • Northwood School navy/amber multi-sport top and/or Northwood School navy/amber zip jumper
  • Northwood School navy/amber shorts and/or plain black tracksuit bottoms
  • Black football socks
  • Trainers  (No Vans/Converse/canvas shoes or plimsolls)
  • Football boots
  • Gum shield

PE Kit should be worn for after school sporting clubs. All PE kits should be free from any logo or brand name, apart from the school logo. 

A 40 min Head of Department detention will be issued if students forget their PE kit. A 15 minute lunch detention will be issued if they forget part of their kit. The PE department has spare kit that students will be expected to wear if they do not have their correct items of clothing.
